Abhishek Nayar, who was the assistant coach of the Indian men’s team, is starting a new chapter in his coaching career. He’s going to be a full-time coach for the first time in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). After leaving the Indian team, Nayar has been appointed as the head coach of UP Warriorz, a team that has not won a title yet.
Nayar is also the batting coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He is very fond of KKR and says it’s like his family. He thought of joining KKR even before people knew he was leaving the Indian team. He said KKR is where he feels he truly belongs.
UP Warriorz has not won the WPL yet and Nayar is joining them as their coach. He spoke about his recent experiences after taking up the job which is quite some time before the next tournament.
Why did you join KKR before your departure from the Indian team was announced? Nayar replied, KKR is where I feel at home.
KKR is like family to me. People talk about that idea a lot but for me it’s really true. The speed at which I came back to the team shows I belong there, he said.
KL Rahul praised Nayar for helping him grow as a white ball batter. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) let Nayar go. Now Nayar has another task: to guide UP Warriorz to their first WPL title.

The only way is up and that’s our opportunity, he said. With his experience, the pressure is on Nayar. He has coached with Kolkata Knight Riders and helped many players succeed on the field. Now he wants to do the same for UP Warriorz
