BCCI selector Ajit Agarkar explained why Abhimanyu Easwaran didn’t make the 15-member squad for the upcoming Test series against West Indies. India chose Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul as openers, with N Jagadeesan as another option. Easwaran was in the India squad for the five-Test series against England but didn’t play a game.
When asked about Easwaran’s omission, Agarkar said they didn’t need a third opener at home, which led to the decision. About Abhimanyu, we don’t need a third opener at home, said Agarkar.
Agarkar also expressed confidence in Nitish Kumar Reddy, who missed the end of the England series due to injury. He mentioned that Nitish adds flexibility to the team. Nitish showed a lot of potential with his bowling and batting under pressure. He’s a young player who’s growing, and he gives us options, Agarkar noted.

Agarkar clarified that the pacer is rested and ready for the series, which starts on October 2 in Ahemdabad. This is the team for both Test matches, so he’s available. We had a good break after England. He didn’t play the fifth Test, and there’s been a month or five weeks off, he said in reply to a question.
This tournament (the Asia Cup, where Bumrah is playing) has been spaced out until this last week. He’s ready and wants to play both Test matches, Agarkar explained.
