As per reports, the famous IPL player Andre Russell might make his debut in South Africa’s T20 league, SA20. A chief figure for KKR for some 15 years and 7 months, Russell is said to be cementing his place with the Pretoria Capitals, a team associated with Delhi Capitals.
According to the West Bengal-based newspaper Najarbandi, it was Sourav Ganguly, legend of Kolkata cricket and now associated with the JSW group, who called Russell to play for Pretoria. Soon after KKR’s last nail-biting win against Rajasthan Royals, Ganguly had a word with Russell, who readily agreed to this exciting new opportunity. If he joins the Capitals, this will be his maiden stint in the SA20 since its inception in 2023.
Last year, Pretoria Capitals managed to be runner-up, but after that, their luck went sour. They are looking at putting together a far stronger team this year with star performers like Russell. Russell had finally rediscovered his form in IPL 2025 after a rather average beginning.
He was then promoted up the order and duly justified the decision against Royals. Coming in at number five, he smashed four fours and six sixes for 57 runs off 25 balls, helping KKR set a target of 206. Royals tried to chase it but went down by a solitary run, despite Riyan Parag scoring a blitz 50.
