The appointment of Rajat Patidar as RCB captain for the season 2025 IPL has ushered in a new era at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This move has been welcomed by RCB head coach Andy Flower, who is confident that Patidar has what it takes to lead. Flower said Patidar’s two main qualities that make him a good leader are his patience and calm demeanor. “I liked Rajat’s patience and simplicity. I think those are, for me, ideal qualities for a player to have in a game like the IPL. The greatest value of Rajat is patience. I think he keeps a very calm eye on everything in the game. Even when he sees many ups and downs, he never loses his focus on the game,” Flower said.
Patidar has the essential attributes required to captain a team in a pressure cooker format like the IPL, further emphasizing the more senior Coach.
“Rajat has all the qualifications to be a captain,” he added.
Empowered by the support of the team-management and senior players, Patidar now shoulders a big responsibility: to steer RCB toward the long-awaited glory that the IPL has been providing ever since it first existed! The fans will be itching to see how he goes about it in the next season.
Patidar, today, will be leading for RCB to earn the glory for which they have been waiting for so long. With this appointment, he carries forward the legacy of leadership cultivated in the club by cricketing stalwarts like Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Virat Kohli, and Faf du Plessis.
Patidar’s appointment marks a significant moment in the history of RCB, as the franchise looks to build on its illustrious legacy of leadership.

RCB has been a mix of high-profile players for many years, and Patidar’s announcement for leading the side is one of the team’s tokens of faith in his ability. His tactical sense and approach should see the team through and perhaps cement him into history with the franchise’s other iconic captains.
Unlike Ravi Shastri, Patidar has had experience as the captain of Madhya Pradesh throughout his varying careers in many competitions. Patidar led MP to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy’s final last year, after which he beat the record of scoring 428 runs in Ten Matches averaging 61.14; his strike rate was over 186, during which he scored five fifties, making him the tournament’s second-leading run-scorer.
His solid gameplay against spin and six-hitting ability has been a highlight of his game.
One of RCB’s best Indian talents since 2022, with 799 runs coming from 24 innings at an average of 34.73 and a strike rate of 158.84, including one century and seven fifties. No knock stands out like the century against LSG last season during the eliminator, he became the first uncapped batter to score a hundred in IPL playoffs.
Stepping out to bat for RCB, he scored 395 runs from 13 matches over thirty-eight games, with five fifties. It was those brilliant performances that sprung life for RCB’s late surge into playoffs after just one win in the first eight matches.
