Wasim Akram thinks India will be the favourites when they play Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup because they are in good form. But he also said the team that stays calm under pressure will win. He hopes the players and fans from both sides will keep their patriotism in check.
The match is on September 14 in Dubai and it’s going to be an emotional one for both sides. It’s the first time they will be playing each other since the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year which led to some serious tensions between the countries like missile and drone attacks and people dying.
I’m sure these matches will be fun to watch, just like all the other India-Pakistan matches, Akram told Telecom Asia Sport. “But I hope everyone, players and fans, will stay in control and not get carried away. Indian fans want their team to win and Pakistani fans want the same for their team. India is in better form right now so they will probably start as favourites but the team that can handle the pressure best on the day will come out on top.

Until last month there was a possibility the match wouldn’t happen at all. Some reports said the Asia Cup might be cancelled because people were asking the BCCI to stop all ties with Pakistan even in big tournaments.
But the tournament was approved and it’s happening as planned. The BCCI is officially in charge but the whole thing will be played in the United Arab Emirates.
The Indian sports ministry said recently that they are not playing bilateral series but the government won’t stop the team from playing in big international tournaments. Akram still wants the countries to start playing Test cricket again for the fans.
“This Asia Cup will be great for fans all over the world. I really hope India and Pakistan can start playing a Test series again. It’s been too long and it would be amazing for fans in both countries,” Akram said.
