A sensational six-wicket haul from young pacer Baloda set the tone for an eventful opening day of the Youth Test, as the home side dismissed Australia for a modest 174 before stumps. Winning the toss and opting to bowl first on a surface offering early movement, the hosts made full use of helpful conditions to put the visitors under sustained pressure from the very first session.
Baloda was relentless with his line and length, troubling the Australian top and middle order throughout his spell. Bowling with impressive control and extracting consistent seam movement, he picked up crucial wickets at regular intervals, never allowing the visiting batters to settle into any sort of rhythm. His six-wicket haul, the best figures of the match so far, ensured Australia never truly recovered after a shaky start, with the lower order unable to add meaningful resistance.
Hosts Stumble Late After Strong Bowling Display
Despite the bowlers’ heroics, the home side’s reply did not begin smoothly. Facing a disciplined Australian attack under lights, the hosts lost two early wickets as the visitors fought back with the ball in hand. By the close of play, the home team had reached 38 for two, leaving the match finely poised heading into day two. CricketBuzz understands that team management will be keen for the top order to build a substantial first-innings lead, given the advantage already created by Baloda’s exceptional spell.
With conditions still expected to assist bowlers early in the morning session, both sides will know that wickets in hand could prove decisive in determining the outcome of this Youth Test. As CricketBuzz reported from the ground, the young pacer’s performance has already been hailed as one of the standout individual efforts of the tournament so far.
