BCCI announced India’s 15-member squad on Thursday, September 25 for the 2-Test series against West Indies.
Rishabh Pant the wicket-keeper batter will be missing from the series. He got a toe fracture during the England tour and needs time to recover. Because of his absence Dhruv Jurel will be the main wicketkeeper. N. Jagadeesan from Tamil Nadu will be his backup.
Devdutt Padikkal is Back in the Team
Also Karun Nair will be replaced by Devdutt Padikkal. Padikkal played in the Perth Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. His return will boost the batting order.

As expected Shubman Gill will be the captain of the team. Ravindra Jadeja will be the vice-captain. His experience will keep the team stable. Jasprit Bumrah the world no.1 bowler will be in the team.
Shreyas Iyer will not be playing as BCCI has given him a 6 month break from red ball cricket due to his back problems which keep recurring. So India will have to find other players for the middle order for this series.
Shreyas Iyer won’t be playing in the Irani Cup either. BCCI has now said he’s taking a 6 month break from red ball cricket. After his back surgery in the UK he’s been getting spasms and stiffness when playing longer matches.
He’s decided to focus on getting better and improving his fitness so his back doesn’t get worse. He also missed the 2nd unofficial Test against Australia A this week.
Rajat Patidar will captain the Rest of India team instead, with Ruturaj Gaikwad as his deputy. Patidar recently captained Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy so he was a good choice to lead the team.
The first Test of the 2-Test series will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2-6. The second Test will be at Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi from October 10-14.
