The BCCI is set for a busy period with changes on and off the field.
Word is that the BCCI’s top committee met recently to discuss new sponsors for the 2027 ODI World Cup. They will also choose a new president in the upcoming BCCI elections to replace the current one, Roger Binny. This was after Rajeev Shukla, who is filling in as president temporarily, led the Apex Council meeting on August 28th.
The Indian cricket board is going through some heat as it deals with several changes including finding a replacement for the president and getting a new sponsor before the big tournaments including the Asia Cup 2025.
Roger Binny has to step down as president as he is over 70 which is the age limit as per the board’s rules. While they figure things out, Rajeev Shukla, a cricket official with lots of experience, has taken over as interim president. He will be in that role till the BCCI elections happen.

During the Apex Committee meeting on August 28th, acting president Rajeev Shukla was in charge since Binny wasn’t there. According to Abhishek Tripathi, the board also discussed the Dream11 sponsorship deal.
The Indian board is looking for a new sponsor for the 2027 ICC World Cup. Dream11, a fantasy sports company, is not the Indian cricket team’s title sponsor anymore. The board has started looking for someone to take their place. But, Abhishek Tripathi says that a final decision probably won’t be made till after the Asia Cup next month.
PTI reports that Dream11 will stop being the title sponsor of the Indian cricket team after the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025. This is because the government recently banned real money gaming under the new ‘Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming’ act.
Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, said, Because of this, we can’t continue with them, so we’re looking for other options. This is still in progress. We’re looking to fill the sponsor spot, but nothing is confirmed yet. We’ll let you know through the media when something happens.
The sports ministry wants the elections to be held in September as per the National Sports Governance Act. But, the board has been asked to hold the elections as per the Lodha Committee recommendations which were approved by the Supreme Court if the new rules are not announced by then.
Abhishek Tripathi of Dainik Jagran has confirmed that the board elections will happen soon and can’t be delayed any further. Elections can’t be delayed till the new Governance Bill is passed.
