Cheteshwar Pujara, a star player from India, shared his thoughts on KL Rahul’s batting during a recent match. He pointed out that Rahul could have been more aggressive while batting in the middle overs to give the Delhi Capitals a boost, but it seemed like he was focused more on just sticking around instead of scoring runs.
The game was exciting, especially since the Delhi Capitals clinched a thrilling win in a Super Over against the Rajasthan Royals, largely thanks to a fantastic performance by Mitchell Starc. Pujara mentioned that with Rahul batting at number four now, he needs to step up and play with a more attacking mindset during those critical middle overs.
Pujara explained that as a senior player, Rahul might be thinking that he should settle in for the first 15-20 balls before trying to take risks. However, given that he had already gotten a feel for the pitch, Pujara felt it would have been better if Rahul had approached his innings differently. Instead of focusing on his wicket, he could have played more freely and aggressively.
In a previous match against the Mumbai Indians, Rahul had trouble finding his footing. He only scored 15 runs from 13 balls before getting out. In the game against Rajasthan, he managed to get 38 runs off 32 balls before Jofra Archer took him out.
During the Super Over, though, Rahul and Tristan Stubbs held their composure, hitting a boundary and a six to secure the win for Delhi, marking their first victory at the Arun Jaitley Stadium this season. Earlier, Rahul had paired up with Abishek Porel to build a solid partnership of 63 runs, which laid a good foundation for the innings.
Alongside Porel, who was steady at the crease, Rahul managed to release some of the pressure with a couple of towering sixes—one of which he smashed down the ground off Tushar Deshpande. This effort, combined with Axar Patel’s explosive 34 runs off just 13 balls and Stubbs’s 34 not out from 18 balls, really gave the Delhi innings that extra spark.
Looking ahead, Delhi Capitals will face the Gujarat Titans next, on Saturday, April 19, in Ahmedabad. It’s a chance for them to build on their recent success and keep the momentum going.
