Dinesh Karthik recently shared some insights about Virat Kohli, who’s still making waves in the cricket world at 36 years old. Even as a living legend and one of the best players out there, Kohli is putting in the effort to add new shots to his game during practice sessions with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025. Karthik, who used to be a wicketkeeper for India and hung up his gloves last year, is now back with RCB as a batting mentor. It seems like he’s really impressed with Kohli’s relentless drive to keep on improving, calling it the “hunger in his mindset” that makes him stand out.
Kohli is in his 18th season with RCB, starting things off strong by scoring an unbeaten half-century against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, leading his team to a solid seven-wicket victory. At a pre-match press conference ahead of RCB’s game against Chennai Super Kings, Karthik mentioned that just moments before he came out to speak, Kohli was eager to work on perfecting yet another shot. “To want to work on a new shot at this point in your career just shows his determination to keep getting better. He’s always looking to raise the standard, and that’s what makes him such a remarkable player,” Karthik said.
Looking ahead to the match in Chennai, RCB will face a real test against the spin bowlers on the slow Chepauk pitch. Kohli has had his struggles against spin, especially in the first part of the last IPL season. But, Karthik pointed out that Kohli has adapted his technique and mindset, which has helped him improve significantly.
Karthik downplayed some of the worries about Kohli’s performance against spin. He’s been scoring a lot in the Champions Trophy lately. He’s done well against spin in recent white-ball games, so I’m not too focused on stats,” he explained.
“If I recall, he scored runs that were crucial in the World Cup final. He also performed well in the Champions Trophy, coming in as one of the top scorers. Being able to do that against spin isn’t easy, especially when you consider how much the pitch in Dubai favoured spinner. It shows he’s fully aware and ready. Right now, it looks like he’s batting as confidently as ever.”
It’s clear Karthik has a lot of respect for Kohli’s abilities and his desire to keep pushing his limits, which is something many fans admire. Kohli’s journey through the IPL has been a testament to hard work, adaptability, and skill, and it looks like he’s still in it for the long haul, ready to make more memories on the field.
