Delhi Capitals just said that Faf du Plessis from South Africa will be their vice-captain for the 2025 IPL. Before DC picked him up, the 40-year-old Du Plessis was the captain for Royal Challengers Bengaluru for three seasons.
DC got the former Chennai Super Kings opener for his base price of Rs 2 crore. He’s going to be helping out Axar Patel, who’s now the main captain.

Du Plessis has been around the IPL, playing for CSK, RCB, and Rising Pune Supergiants. In 145 IPL games, he’s got 4571 runs with a strike-rate of 136.36.
DC needed a new captain after letting Rishabh Pant go in 2024. They didn’t get him back at the auction because Lucknow Super Giant paid a huge Rs 27 crore to sign him.

Axar is staying with DC for Rs 16.5 crore. He has played 82 games for them, scoring 967 runs and taking 62 wickets.
“I feel like I’ve become a better player and person while playing for the Capitals, and I’m ready to lead the team. The coaches and scouts did great work at the auction, getting a squad that has a lot of ability. I’m looking forward to joining the team, Axar said when he was announced as captain.
Axar has a total of 1653 runs and 123 wickets in 150 IPL matches. He even got a hat-trick for Punjab Kings in 2016, taking four wickets in five balls against Gujarat Lions.
