Glenn Maxwell has always been one of the top cricketers around, but this season of IPL 2025 hasn’t been kind to him. People were pondering whether he would even play the match against the Chennai Super Kings due to this non-form, and then PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer dropped a bombshell during the toss that Maxwell actually has a broken finger. He said they have not sorted out a replacement yet, which implies that they are still figuring things out. Sadly, it seems that Maxwell is out for the rest of IPL 2025.
In recent days, Maxwell has been battling injuries. Just prior to this finger injury, he had been out of the game for a while because of a hamstring problem. Iyer expressed his disappointment saying, “It’s really unfortunate to be missing Glenn Maxwell due to his fractured finger. We haven’t made a call on who will replace him just yet. We are likely going to stick with our last playing XI for now. Not exactly sure what changes may come, but most of the players from the previous game will still be in it.”
Although Maxwell hasn’t been in any form lately, his absence is a big blow for Punjab Kings. This guy can pull off some really unbelievable match-winning feats. In a close playoff race, having a player like him is gold. Posting a lowly 48 runs in six matches this season is just not up to his fans’ expectations.
One good thing for the Punjab Kings is they have a decent lineup filled with great overseas talent. An injury to Maxwell gives someone else a shot at the playing XI, so they could try and bring in an overseas replacement for him. This could be a good tactical move as the tournament enters its crucial, more competitive phase. A misfortune for Maxwell; for the team, it could be an opportunity to convert this misfortune into fortune.
