Irfan Pathan spoke about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s chances of playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. He feels it will be tough for them to stay fit and perform if they only play one format.
Kohli and Sharma are likely to return for the 3-ODI series in Australia starting October 19, their first international series since the Champions Trophy final. People are wondering if they will be in the squad for the 2027 World Cup.
Pathan said Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are focused on the IPL right now. Because T20 cricket is so popular, there’s less chance of playing ODIs. Getting enough game time before the World Cup will be important for them.
Pathan told RevSportz that Kohli and Rohit need to play cricket. He said the issue for these dedicated guys will be playing regularly and staying in shape.

He said Virat will only play IPL and some First-Class cricket, just to play. Getting regular game time won’t be easy.
Pathan also said Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are working hard to stay fit. He said Rohit is serious about fitness and Virat is too.
When the World Cup comes, Rohit will be 40 and Virat will be 39. It’s uncertain if they’ll play, especially if they have trouble staying in shape and playing well. They’ve already retired from T20Is and Tests and now they only play ODIs and IPL.

After those 3 games against Australia and the IPL, there will be a long break and that will disrupt their rhythm. They have at least 27 ODIs before the 2027 World Cup and more might be added. Playing those will be important for Kohli and Rohit if they want to play for India again.
