The two-match series stands at 1-0 in India’s favour after they had crashed the West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, with Ravindra Jadeja scooping up the Player of the Match award for his all-round show, scoring 104* and bagging a four-wicket haul.
As for the match in question, it was West Indies that won the toss and elected to bat first. Other than a 48-run partnership for the fourth wicket between skipper Roston Chase (24 in 43 balls, with four boundaries) and Hope (26 in 36 balls, with three fours), and a knock of 32 in 73 balls (with four boundaries) by Greaves, there was not much resistance offered by the WI, who were skittled out by 44.1 overs at 162.
Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) did well on what was an ideal wicket for them; meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav (2/25) and Sundar (1/9) chipped in with the wickets through their spin.
With a sickening lead of 286 runs, during India’s first innings, KL Rahul (100 in 197 balls, 12 fours), Dhruv Jurel (125 in 210 balls, 15 fours, 3 sixes), and Jadeja (104* in 176 balls, six fours, five sixes) all scored centuries, 448/5 was put up by India before declaring.
The opposition, during their second innings, did not present any threat whatsoever, as Alick Athanaze (38 in 74 balls, with three fours) and Justin Greaves (25 in 52 balls, with four boundaries) were top-two scorers. India bundled them out for 146, led by Jadeja (4/54), Siraj (3/31), and Kuldeep (2/23) as the top wicket takers.
The two-time ICC World Test Championship (WTC) finalists are third on the WTC table with three wins, one draw, and two losses.
