Maxwell has experience of captaincy, having led the Melbourne Stars in 65 BBL matches where he won 34 and lost 30 with one game being washed out. He hasn’t won the BBL trophy yet but he has shown he can lead. He was also the captain of Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in 2017 IPL season where the team won 7 out of 14 games but didn’t make the playoffs.
In his last season with the Freedom, Maxwell was crucial in their title win, scoring 153 runs in 8 innings at an average of 38.25 with one half-century. He also took 10 wickets at an average of 17 and an economy rate of 6.66. Smith will play only two games this season but will be part of the team as he focuses on the WTC final.
