Gujarat Titans (GT) made a splash in their first year, 2022, by winning the Indian Premier League (IPL). They made it to the IPL 2025 playoffs for the third time but lost to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator. Now, GT needs to fix some issues in the team at the IPL 2026 auction.
Last time, the team, led by Shubman Gill, had a strong top order but the lower middle order struggled. Also, the bowlers gave away too many runs. As they rebuild, let’s see how much money Gujarat Titans might have for the IPL 2026 auction.
Which GT Players Didn’t Perform Well Given Their Price?
Rashid Khan: He was retained but wasn’t great last season. Rashid hasn’t been at his best recently.
Kagiso Rabada: This South African fast bowler missed most of the season. When he did play, he wasn’t good, letting opponents score almost 12 runs an over.
Rahul Tewatia: GT never let Rahul Tewatia bat more than the last two overs of a game. He has some issues with his game and doesn’t contribute much.
Which Key Players Could Gujarat Titans Release to Get More Money?
Gujarat Titans might release some big names before the IPL 2026 auction.
Rahul Tewatia (INR 4 crore): Rahul Tewatia played all 15 IPL 2025 games but faced only 59 balls, less than four per game. He didn’t bowl at all. He scored 99 runs with an average of 12.37. A team can’t spend INR 4 crore for these numbers.
Glenn Phillips (INR 2 crore): Gujarat Titans started the season with three international players but didn’t give Glenn Phillips a chance. He later got injured while fielding and couldn’t play. Since they didn’t seem to trust him, they’ll probably release him.
Gerald Coetzee (INR 2.4 crore): Gerald Coetzee played four IPL 2025 games, took two wickets and gave away 10.91 runs an over. The South African can be a good bowler in the middle overs but with Prasidh Krishna already there, they might not need him.
Gujarat Titans Squad Before the IPL 2026 Auction
Here’s what the Gujarat Titans squad could look like after retaining and releasing players:
Retained
Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Sai Sudharsan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, R Sai Kishore, Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, Arshad Khan, Anuj Rawat, and Gurnoor Brar.
Released
Rahul Tewatia (INR 4 crore), Glenn Phillips (INR 2 crore), Gerald Coetzee (INR 2.4 crore), Ishant Sharma (INR 0.75 crore), Karim Janat (INR 0.75 crore), Mahipal Lomror (INR 1.7 crore), Jayant Yadav (INR 0.75 crore), Kumar Kushagra (INR 0.65 crore), Kulwant Khejroliya (INR 0.30 crore), Manav Suthar (INR 0.30 crore), Dasun Shanaka (INR 0.75 crore), and Nishant Sindhu (INR 0.30 crore).
Which GT Players Didn’t Perform Well Given Their Price?
Last couple of seasons Rashid Khan has not been of famous standard, GT may very well not release him. Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada are unlikely to be releasing, thus, there aren’t many ways for freeing up money.
Rahul Tewatia can be released after four years of his association with the team. Glenn Phillips, Gerald Coetzee, and Mahipal Lomror might also be released.
Assuming a few of these players are released, the total cost of the players kept by Gujarat Titans could reach INR 105.95 crores. Keeping the purse limit the same, that leaves GT INR 14.05 crores to spend in the IPL 2026 auction.
