Gus Atkinson, the England pace bowler, will miss the ODI series against the West Indies because of a hamstring injury. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Tuesday that Atkinson hurt himself during last week’s Test win over Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge. He’ll be going through rehab with the England medical staff now. There won’t be a replacement added to the ODI squad.
The team will be captained by Harry Brook, who just took over the white-ball captaincy after Jos Buttler stepped down following a tough ICC Champions Trophy performance. Buttler also struggled during the World Cup and T20 World Cup title defenses. Brook will lead both the ODI and T20I teams in what should be an exciting summer series against the West Indies.
Here’s the ODI squad: Harry Brook (captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jamie Smith.
And the T20I squad: Harry Brook (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Luke Wood.
