India vs South Africa One Day Internationals have been high scoring affairs with Indian batsmen dominating the top 6 highest scores list. The top 6 scorers in these encounters were all Indian players with the list featuring greats like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
Sachin Tendulkar – 200* – Gwalior 2010
This was a watershed moment in world cricket. With his 200 in One Day Internals at Gwalior, Sachin Tendulkar not only created a record but also helped India to cross 400 for the first time in ODIs which was another big milestone in Indian cricket history.
He was on fire from the start hitting 25 fours and 3 sixes. In the 50th over Tendulkar reached the magic number, bowled by Charl Langeveldt. Thus India for the first time in the format reached 400 which was another big moment in Indian cricket history.

Virat Kohli – 160* – Cape Town 2018
Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 160 at Cape Town in 2018 which is the highest One Day International score by an Indian batsman in South African soil. The innings was typical Kohli, good rotation of strikes and very little scoring (only 60 runs) through boundaries.
Kohli was backed by the Indian bowlers. The spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav shared 8 wickets between them and made it an easy win for India.
Rohit Sharma – 150 – Kanpur 2015
In 2015 at Kanpur Rohit Sharma scored 150 and lifted his team with his brilliant innings. But his brilliant performance was in a losing cause as India could manage only 298 while chasing 304.
Rohit was not supported by his batsmen much, except for Ajinkya Rahane who scored 60. Even though Rohit scored more than 50% of India’s total runs in the match, India lost by 5 runs.
Sourav Ganguly – 141* – Nairobi 2000
The 2000 ICC Champions Trophy semifinal saw Sourav Ganguly play a masterclass and his 141* is still the highest score by an Indian in ICC knockout matches.
As always Ganguly had a tough time and was especially good against left arm spinners. The South African spinner Nicky Boje tried to attack but was thoroughly beaten; he could only bowl 2 overs and go for 26 runs. Ganguly’s batting not only helped India score a mountain of runs 295/6 but the match ended in India’s win by 95 runs.
Shikhar Dhawan – 137 – Melbourne 2015
Shikhar Dhawan is one of the best Indian batsmen in ICC tournaments. 6 of his 17 ODI hundreds have been scored in World Cup or ICC Champions Trophy. He got his first hundred in World Cup at MCG in 2015 and it was against the Proteas.
Though Rohit was dismissed early, Dhawan made a big partnership with Virat Kohli and slowly put South Africa out of the match. Dhawan scored 137 off 146 balls and took India to 307/7. South Africa lost by 130 runs.
