World Test Championship (WTC) Final is all set to have an unprecedented prize pay-out of $5.76 million, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC). With this releasing of prize money for the WTC Final slated from June 11 onwards at Lord’s Cricket Ground, it amounts to the greatest amount of prize money ever announced for a tournament.
Speaking on the side lines of the competition, ICC Chair Jay Shah even said that it was thrilling to watch the finalists coming down to the wire.
This championship has brought some brilliant talents from various teams, thereby pitting Australia against South Africa, which is sure to be a great showcase for cricket buffs. Jay Shah went on to say that he is sure that all those watching in the stands or from home will witness some good cricket between these two teams.
For a significant injection to Test cricket-wise, the ICC revealed that the WTC 2023-25 champion will take home $3.6 million, a figure well over double what earlier champions got. The runner-up will take home $2.16 million, which is a heavily augmented prize when compared to the $800,000 that was won in earlier finals.
ICC put out official media statements declaring this an upgrade, keep in mind champions of the previous two editions took home $1.6 million each. Team India ended up third in the tally and will be awarded $1.44 million for their efforts through the 2-year cycle, just missing out on making it to the final for the third consecutive time.

India had a pretty mixed season with a drawn series in South Africa and a 3-1 loss in Australia. Even with no final berth, they maintain strong competition in overall performance in Test cricket.
Australia and South Africa are set to take on each other on 11th June in the WTC finals which is scheduled to take place at the lord’s. While Australia will try to defend their crown on the other hand Proteas will be on the mission to clinch their first WTC championship.
