This year the tournament is in T20 format and was originally supposed to be held in India. But due to diplomatic issues between India and Pakistan it was shifted to UAE.
Jasprit Bumrah is fit to play for India in the Asia Cup which is a big boost for the team. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana will be part of the pace attack.
Meanwhile Sanju Samson has been chosen as the main wicketkeeper and Jitesh Sharma will be the backup. Rishabh Pant will miss the tournament as he fractured his foot during the series against England.
Apart from that Shubman Gill, India’s Test captain, will also be part of the squad for the Asia Cup in September. This T20I tournament is the first big preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Gill will be Suryakumar Yadav’s vice-captain.
This comes after Gill’s great performance in IPL 2025 where he scored 650 runs with a strike rate of almost 156 proving he is one of the most dangerous top-order batters.
Gill was not part of India’s T20I plans since August 2024. He was only a reserve for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. Since then Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have been the preferred opening pair.
