India haven’t been great in Tests lately and something strange happened. England scored 544/7 on day 3 in Manchester. It’s the first time in 10 years India have allowed a 500+ score in an overseas Test innings. Ben Stokes is still batting and 600 is possible. The last time this happened was in January 2015 in Sydney against Australia (572/7 declared) with centuries from David Warner and Steve Smith. Mohammed Shami took 5 wickets then and the match was a draw.
On Friday, Joe Root was brilliant for England. He scored his 38th century as England took advantage of India’s tired bowlers in the 4th Test. Root scored 150 (248 balls), Stokes is on 77 (134 balls) and Ollie Pope 71 (128 balls). The day before the English openers also did well against India’s bowling.
Root reached his 12th century against India by tea. The Indian bowlers didn’t trouble Root and Pope in the morning and England were 332/2 by lunch. After a bad evening session on day 2, India’s bowlers still couldn’t break through.
