India wrapped up Pakistan’s 171 in no time. Abhishek Sharma got the party started with some big hitting and set the tone for India’s highest ever successful chase against Pakistan in T20Is. This win in the 2025 Asia Cup with Suryakumar Yadav as captain calls for a look back at five of India’s best T20I chases against Pakistan.
India’s Highest Successful Chases Against Pakistan
1. India 174-4 vs Pakistan, Dubai 2025
Just after beating Pakistan in the group stage of the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai, India again led by Suryakumar Yadav beat Pakistan in the Super Four stage at the same ground. Chasing 172, openers Abhishek Sharma (74 off 39) and Shubman Gill (47 off 28) went after Pakistan’s bowling, putting on a 105-run opening partnership in under 10 overs. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya finished it off, getting the winning runs with 6 wickets in hand and 7 balls left.
2. India 160-6 vs Pakistan, MCG 2022
This might not be the highest chase but it’s one of the most memorable, thanks to Virat Kohli. He was under pressure because of his form but he pulled off something special. Chasing 160 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the 2022 T20 World Cup, against a tough bowling attack and with the memory of losing to Pakistan in the previous year’s World Cup, India had a bad start. But they came back to win. Kohli played an incredible innings, scoring 82* and his partnership with Pandya (40 off 37) lifted India from 31-4 to a win.
3. India 148-5 vs Pakistan, Dubai 2022
Hardik Pandya had a great game against Pakistan in the 2022 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai. He took 3 wickets for 25 runs, backing up Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4-26) as India restricted Pakistan to 147. When Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav didn’t score much, Hardik hit 33* off 17 balls, 4 fours and a six to win the game in the final over.
4. India 131-3 vs Pakistan, Mirpur 2014
Under MS Dhoni, Team India started their 2014 T20 World Cup with a 7 wicket win against Pakistan in their first Group 2 game. Amit Mishra was the ‘Player of the Match’ for picking up the wickets of Shehzad and Shoaib Malik and restricting Pakistan to 130-7 in 20 overs in Mirpur. Kohli was unbeaten, scoring 36* and Raina added a quick 35* as India won with 9 balls to spare.
5. India 131-3 vs Pakistan, Dubai 2025
In the midst of tensions, Team India beat Pakistan by 7 wickets in the Group A match of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai. Kuldeep Yadav took 3 wickets, with help from Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel, to restrict Pakistan to 127-9. Abhishek Sharma then hit a quick 31 off 13 balls and Suryakumar Yadav guided the chase with 47* along with Tilak Varma (31) to finish the game in 15.5 overs.
