According to a report published by The Telegraph, BCCI is unlikely to consider recalling the speedy bowler Mohammed Shami after he was snubbed for the ODI series against Australia. The report asserted that Shami’s recent domestic performances had been mediocre and, with the pacer turning 35 last month, the chances of an IPL call-up seem really slim. Shami, the death bowler, last represented India in March 2025 during the Champions Trophy. However, with injury troubles, the veteran pace bowler remained at domestic cricket only, but thanks to his underwhelming show of late, he has proven anything but an opt for the BCCI selectors.
“It has been getting tougher for Shami to make it back into the Indian team at the moment. Even in the Duleep Trophy game, save for one jittery spell, he wasn’t too impressive. Plus, he is not getting any younger. Pace-wise, also, he couldn’t seem to be his best in Duleep. But he needs to be playing a decent amount of domestic games to continue playing in the IPL,” a BCCI official was quoted saying to The Telegraph.

The report went further to even say that Shami has listed himself as available for Bengal’s Ranji Trophy campaign. Bengal will take on Uttarakhand on October 15 in their first Ranji Trophy match this year.
“Six or seven days back, I talked to Shami. He expressed his longing to play. So on our part, there is optimism with respect to his availability in the Ranji opener,” Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said.
No concrete decision has been taken on Shami’s inclusion in the side, as a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official said that the squad would be decided in a few days after a discussion with Shukla. “We’ll sit with Laxmi and discuss all related aspects most likely on Tuesday,” an office-bearer of senior rank in the CAB told The Telegraph.
