James Anderson, the English fast bowler, achieved a remarkable feat on Tuesday, August 26. At 43, he became the oldest fast bowler to take a wicket in The Hundred.
Anderson, a right-arm fast bowler, had a great career with England, taking 704 wickets in Tests and 269 in ODIs. He played for the Manchester Originals and took two wickets in the match against the Northern Superchargers at Headingley in Leeds. This was the 30th league match of The Hundred 2025.
He first played in The Hundred on August 6, 2025. With this he broke the record held by Michael Hogan, the former Australian bowler. Hogan was 41 years and 86 days old when he took a wicket for the Southern Brave in The Hundred on August 25, 2022.

But the overall record for the oldest bowler to take a wicket in The Hundred still belongs to Imran Tahir, the former South African spinner. Tahir was 43 years and 145 days old when he achieved this for the Birmingham Phoenix in 2022.
In his first two matches of The Hundred, Anderson didn’t take any wickets. But in Leeds, he made a breakthrough by getting Dawid Malan, the former English batter, caught out by Jos Buttler for just three runs. This happened on the sixth ball of the match.
Then Dan Lawrence, batting at number three, hit Anderson for two fours in a row. But Anderson came back strong and got Lawrence out leg before wicket on the ninth ball.
He bowled 20 balls on Tuesday but couldn’t add any more wickets to his tally. He finished the game with 2 wickets for 30 runs.
Anderson’s bowling helped the Manchester Originals restrict the Northern Superchargers to 139/8 in 100 balls. Then Jos Buttler played a great innings, scoring 70 off 37. This helped the visitors chase down the target of 140 in 84 balls.Buttler and Rachin Ravindra put on 99 runs in 48 balls for the third wicket. Ravindra was not out on 47 off 23. Buttler hit 7 fours and 5 sixes.
