In the IPL 2025 Eliminator at the new Mullanpur stadium on May 30, 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) ended up with a 20-run victory against Gujarat Titans (GT). The game’s pivotal moment came when Jasprit Bumrah’s ball was under quality pressure; he also had a rare moment of defiance against the MI coach Mahela Jayawardene.
Chasing the target, GT stayed in the game despite losing their captain Shubman Gill inside the first over. Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar provided an 84-run stand that kept GT in contention, cumulatively placing pressure on MI’s bench. With Gujarat looking physically strong yet capitalizing on the energy of Jayawardene and batting coach Kieron Pollard to constantly instruct the players, Bumrah near the boundary seemed quite calm in all of the tension.
Commentator Jatin Sapru noted that Bumrah gestured to Jayawardene and captain Hardik Pandya, saying, “Relax, I know my job well. I’m here. You just give me a chance. In their pursuit of a breakthrough, Hardik called on Bumrah in the 14th over, who delivered a pinpoint yorker that cleaned up Sundar’s stumps, returning the momentum to MI. Bumrah animatedly celebrated that moment; the wicket was of Supreme importance.”

Sudharsan followed Sundar to the pavilion not long after, putting GT on the back foot. In the end, the Titans fell short after a hard-fought win, knocking them out of IPL 2025 and securing MI’s tough qualification to Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
