The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) found their way to Qualifier 1 after nine long years, courtesy of an unforgettable six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their last league match. The game was extremely taxing, and at one stage, it seemed that RCB might have to compete with the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator; however, Jitesh Sharma came in and played 85 exceedingly quick runs off 33 balls to change the course of the game.
Chose to bowl first by RCB, who faced a blistering start from Rishabh Pant, who hammered 118 runs off 61 balls, taking LSG to an intimidating total of 227 for 3 in 20 overs. Phil Salt and Virat Kohli went hammer and tongs for RCB to a quick start of 61-run opening stand in just over five overs. But that’s when everything started to crumble for RCB; they found themselves 123 for 4 down in the 12th over.
But then Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma put on a scintillating partnership once more to see RCB over the line; Agarwal also supported with 41 off just 23 balls. Jitesh Sharma’s batting of 85 runs broke the record for the highest score by a No.6 or lower batter in a successful IPL chase, superseding MS Dhoni’s 70 against RCB in 2018.
