Indian cricket is set to go to England for a five-Test match series, wherein the WTC cycle for the year 2025-27 would commence. In an exciting manner, just before this intriguing series set to begin on June 20, star player Virat Kohli announced that he was retiring from Test cricket on May 12, becoming the second Indian alongside Rohit Sharma not to appear in the longest format of the game before this tour.
The retirement of Kohli has been a blow to the cricketing fraternity, and veteran New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson has expressed his views on the matter. He said that people often assume that the likes of Kohli would be around forever. It is certainly not an option, considering modern-day cricket.
Williamson talked to Talksport, saying, “When you have someone as much a part of the game as Virat, it is easy to think that they will just go on forever. But everything comes to an end. It takes a lot out of one to compete at the international level and demands a lot of energy. There is so much he has given to the game through the years. When you really look at it, we are all humans, and we have to make life choices. He is not just a leader in cricket but also a great leader in life. We went through days of playing together in Under-19s, even though our journeys have since deviated.”
