Karun Nair is set to make a comeback to Test cricket after 8 years and is about to leave Vidarbha to return to Karnataka as the domestic transfer window opens. Cricbuzz reports he’s not the only one on the move—Jitesh Sharma who helped his team win IPL 2025 is also thinking of switching from Vidarbha to Baroda.
Last season Vidarbha had a good run, won Ranji Trophy, were runners up in Vijay Hazare Trophy and quarter finalists in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Nair and Jitesh were part of that success, Nair scored 863 runs in Ranji Trophy and was 4th highest scorer, led the charge in Vijay Hazare with 779 runs. He left Karnataka before 2023-24 season and is looking to come back for personal reasons.
Sources from Karnataka State Cricket Association indicate his return is likely. Meanwhile Jitesh’s transfer to Baroda should be done soon. He led Vidarbha in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year and played under Nair in Vijay Hazare although he didn’t leave a big impact in that tournament. Jitesh had a good season in IPL with RCB, including a quick 24 off 10 in the final.

Baroda Cricket Association has said Jitesh will play both red ball and white ball for them. Last year Karnataka won Vijay Hazare Trophy by defeating Nair’s Vidarbha but didn’t go far in Syed Mushtaq Ali and Ranji Trophy. Nair joining the red ball team might give Karnataka the boost they need in Ranji Trophy this time around.
