Another big update coming through is the new window for the sixth Lanka Premier League edition. It would commence from December 1 to 23 after it was called off in July for the year.
Henceforth there will be 24 matches played in this edition, with 20 in the league phase and 4 in the knockouts, and three premium venues, namely, R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy, and Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, Dambulla. According to the reports, the Indian players will participate in the LPL for the very first time. The press release stated: “For the very first time, Indian cricketers are expected to join the action, their names will be revealed soon, adding a whole new level of excitement for fans across the region.”
R Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik, and Piyush Chawla are the names that are set to make history as the first Indian players to register for the LPL, although it may be of interest to note that, in the past, Irfan Pathan had also competed in Sri Lanka’s premiere T20 league.

“This edition’s timing has been meticulously chosen so that players get exposure and top-class match practice right before a global cricketing year. And over the years, the LPL has established itself as a platform for fresh talent with several youngsters making their marks alongside international stars. This year too, the league will churn out some exciting names who are capable of springing surprises on a World Cup stage,” stated Samantha Dodanwela, Tournament Director, LPL.
Whilst five teams shall participate in the upcoming event, which teams are still unknown. As of April 2025, the Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings franchises fail to fulfil their contractual obligations stipulated in their agreement with IPG Group.
Besides this, the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League is all set to clash with ILT20 and BBL 2025-26 for the December window.
