Manoj Tiwary, a former Indian cricketer, is surprised that Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been left out of the Asia Cup 2025 squad and Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, is getting the flak.
Tiwary told ANI, Two very good players have been left out: Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal. If you see old videos of Gautam Gambhir, he used to say Yashasvi Jaiswal is the kind of player who can fit into India’s T20 team immediately and you can’t leave him out of T20s. Now that Gambhir is the coach himself, there’s no place for Yashasvi.

Tiwary said Iyer was unlucky to be left out of the main team, especially after scoring over 600 runs in IPL 2025 and taking his team to the final. Before that in 2024-25 season, Iyer led Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and his team won.
Tiwary said, “If you see Shreyas Iyer’s performance from last year’s IPL and his performance in domestic games, he is one of the best in the format. He averaged 50+ while scoring runs, took Punjab Kings to the final and before that he captained KKR to the title. It’s surprising he didn’t get a place in the T20 team.
He said, That’s why I’ve been saying for years that the selection process should be live so fans know who is picked and why.
Agarkar said Shreyas Iyer and Jaiswal are unlucky but will have to be patient for their T20I chances.
