Justin Langer, the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), recently talked about Mayank Yadav’s recovery during a post-match press conference after their exciting win against the Mumbai Indians. He shared that Mayank is making great progress, bowling at around 90 to 95 percent strength at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. It seems like he might be back in the squad soon, which is great news for both Indian cricket fans and the IPL.
Langer was in a good mood after the game and was clearly pleased with Mayank’s condition. He mentioned that the young speedster is back on his feet and that’s really encouraging. “I checked out some footage of him bowling yesterday at the NCA, and he looked pretty impressive. He’s really stepping it up,” Langer said.
Mayank has been out of action for a while due to a back injury and was just about ready to return this season when he accidentally hurt his toe by stubbing it against his bed. Unfortunately, that led to an infection, which set back his plans to get back on the pitch. Although Langer didn’t specify the exact date when Mayank would be back, he seemed optimistic, noting, “He’s eager to get back to playing. The folks at the NCA have done an awesome job getting our bowlers fit again. Avesh Khan and Akash Deep are back on the team, and we really hope to see Mayank joining them soon.”
Mayank Yadav is just 21 years old and made quite an impression in last season’s IPL with his incredible speed and ability to take wickets, often bowling over 150 km/h. His return would be a huge boost for LSG, who have been dealing with a tough situation with their bowling lineup being pretty short-staffed since the start of this IPL season.
The team’s injury woes began even before the season kicked off, with Mohsin Khan, Mayank, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep all sidelined. In response, LSG brought in experienced bowler Shardul Thakur to help out, and this move has been fruitful so far. Thakur has secured seven wickets in just four matches, including an important performance in the 19th over against Mumbai, where he only gave away seven runs while bowling to star players like Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma.

In other news, Akash Deep made his return to the team on Friday, putting up a performance where he bowled four overs, allowing 46 runs, and taking one wicket. Avesh has played three matches but has faced some trouble with his economy rate, managing only two wickets. Even though LSG’s bowling options have been stretched thin, the strong performances from Thakur and the gradual return of other key players have kept the team in good contention. The fans will surely be keeping their fingers crossed for Mayank’s swift return to the field!
