The cricket playing area is usually in the shape of an ellipse, divided into two sections: the off and the leg sides. Some of the fielding positions in cricket have a specific name and are known by the same throughout the game. Mid-wicket is the position of the fielder on the cricket ground on the leg side of the pitch, which is about 45 degrees in front of the square and halfway up the leg side.

Catching: The mid-wicket fielders should be able to catch the ball very well even if it is hard and high.
Ground fielding: The mid-wicket fielders should be able to pick the ball quickly and correctly, even if it is a bounce off the given surface. Midwicket players should be fast and physically fit to cover the field quickly.
