Mitchell Owen, the young Australian batsman, has been making waves in T20 cricket. His performance in the T20 leagues has impressed fans and selectors alike. So he’s been called up to Australia’s T20I squad for the West Indies series.
The first T20I is on July 21 and Owen is ready. He said he’s happy to bat anywhere in the order and contribute to the team.
Owen has shown some real batting talent. He scored 452 runs in 11 innings in the Big Bash League, including a 39 ball hundred in the final. He also won the MLC 2025 MVP with 313 runs in 11 innings.
Owen told Fox Sports that his past experiences have shaped his game, saying he’s ready for anything.
“All that experience has made me very clear on my game plan and that breeds a bit of confidence. If given the opportunity I’m good to go and ready to go,” Owen said.
Owen has opened in the BBL and MLC but may not get that spot in the Australian team. Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh and Jake Fraser-McGurk are already up top. Owen said he’s happy to play wherever the team needs him.

“Looking at the top order and the talent and the skill and the experience we have there, if I’m given an opportunity I don’t care where it is, I’m just happy to be playing for this team,” he said.
“I had a bit of experience at the PSL batting down at No. 6 or No. 7. Like I said I’m just happy to be getting a game,” he added.
Australia won the three match Test series and now face the West Indies in a five match T20I series starting July 21 at Sabina Park.
