Mitchell Starc made history on Monday (Tuesday IST) when he became the fastest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match.
Starc played his 100th Test for Australia against the West Indies in Kingston from July 12 to 14. He got rid of five West Indies batsmen in 15 balls in the second innings.
Starc’s record of 15 balls beat the previous record held by Ernie Toshack, Stuart Broad and Scott Boland who all took 19 balls to get five wickets.
He started his wickets by dismissing John Campbell on the first ball of the second innings. Campbell was caught by substitute fielder Josh Inglis. On the fifth ball of that same over, Starc got rid of Kevlon Anderson who was trapped in front of the wickets after facing four balls without scoring. On the sixth ball, Starc got past Brandon King’s defence and hit his stumps for a golden duck.
Starc didn’t take any wickets in his second over but didn’t let any runs score. On the first ball of his third over he dismissed Mikyle Louis; Louis was trapped in front of the wickets after scoring 4 runs from 10 balls. The wicket of Louis also meant Starc had taken 400 wickets in Test cricket for Australia.

Starc finished the second innings with 6 wickets for 9 runs in 7.3 overs. He won the match for Australia by 176 runs and the series 3-0. He was also the Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
