Being denied the trophy handover ceremony demand by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi is said to have put forth new conditions to unblock the Asia Cup 2025 deadlock. During the ACC meet on Tuesday, Naqvi was embarrassed by BCCI officials Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar, who suggested that the trophy be kept in the Asian body’s office in Dubai from where it will be dispatched to India.
However, Naqvi showed little or no willingness at all in entertaining the requests made by the Indian board. According to a report in the Pakistani outlet Geo Super, Naqvi even went so far as to refute the very raising of the issue of the trophy handover in the meeting, stating it was not even part of the original agenda.
“This item was not on the ACC meeting agenda,” Naqvi retorted to Rajeev Shukla over a virtual platform.
The BCCI wanted the trophy returned, and Naqvi said, according to the report, “If the Indian team wants to have the trophy, then their captain would come here to the ACC office and collect it from me.”

When Naqvi quite refused to cooperate, BCCI gave a stern warning to the ACC and PCB chiefs that they would register the ICC complaint regarding the trophy not being handed to the Indian team within a defined time period.
“It was made clear that the BCCI will complain to the ICC according to PTI sources, and Shelar briefly left the meeting.”
The two teams met thrice in the tournament with India winning every time, including the final. The Indians maintained a strict ‘no-handshake policy’ with the Pakistan players over the course of the weekend, which infuriated the PCB.
The strained relations between the neighbours have reached an all-time high ever since the Pahalgam adventure where 26 Indian tourists were gunned down by Pakistan-backed terrorists.
In retaliation, India subsequently undertook military operations under the guise of ‘Operation Sindoor’ to dismantle terror infrastructure across the border.
