So the question on every cricket fan’s mind is: will MS Dhoni play another season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL)? The next season is months away but this question is still very much in the air.
Dhoni, the CSK star for so long, has been playing with knee pain for some time now. Even with that he has always made sure CSK is his top priority. Remember CSK didn’t have a great run in IPL 2025 and finished at the bottom of the table. So everyone is wondering if Dhoni will take the field again as a player.
The captain who led India to World Cup victory in 2011 recently spoke about his plans. He said he still has time to decide if he will play in IPL 2026. Dhoni said, I don’t know if I’ll play or not. I have time to decide. I have till December so I’ll think about it for a couple of more months before I take a final call.
A video has surfaced where a fan is telling Dhoni he has to play another IPL season for CSK. You have to play, sir, the fan shouted as Dhoni spoke.
Dhoni replied with a smile and everyone laughed. He asked, Who will take care of my knee pain?
This year Dhoni came in as captain for Ruturaj Gaikwad who had an elbow injury. Dhoni guided the team which was struggling and not well balanced to a few wins towards the end of the season.

Besides the knee injury, time has reduced Dhoni’s aggressive batting. He batted as low as No. 8 in some games. But wherever he plays in the country the stadium is full during the IPL mainly because of Dhoni.
CSK has won 5 IPL titles all under Dhoni’s leadership. The franchise hopes their Thala will return for 2026 season. But Dhoni has not made any promises.
In other news, Ravichandran Ashwin has told the franchise he will leave and find a new team. Ashwin had a tough IPL 2025 season, taking only 7 wickets in 9 matches.
