The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur is gearing up to host the final match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. This prestigious tournament is scheduled to run from September 29 to October 26 this year in India. According to a report by ESPNCricinfo dated March 25, the championship game will take place on October 26 at the new stadium in Mullanpur. Along with this venue, other locations include Vishakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Raipur, and Indore.
Notably, outside of the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, none of these proposed venues have previously hosted an international women’s match. Indore does have some history in this area, having hosted two Women’s World Cup games in the past at the now-defunct Nehru Stadium, which is not available for international play anymore.
As for the teams participating, we already have some heavyweights in the mix. Australia, with their seven titles, and England, who have won it four times, have both qualified. New Zealand, coming off a T20 World Cup win in 2024, joins South Africa and Sri Lanka, who recently lifted the Asia Cup trophy, and of course, the hosts, India.
There are still two spots open, and those will be filled during the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers beginning April 9 in Lahore. If Pakistan makes the cut for the 2025 tournament, they might play their matches in either the UAE or Sri Lanka.
It’s been quite a while since India last hosted the Women’s ODI World Cup — that was back in 2013. Before that, India was the venue for the tournaments in 1978 and 1997. Interestingly, despite the country’s rich cricketing history, the Indian women’s team has yet to claim a World Cup title.
Their best showings were as runners-up in the 2005 and 2017 tournaments. In the last edition held in New Zealand in 2022, India finished fifth in the standings and missed out on a chance to compete in the final.
