Nathan Lyon is cool with England changing their Bazball approach to get wins as the Ashes series looms.
England had a tough time against India in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The five matches ended 2-2, with England winning key moments.
Lyon and other Australian players watched closely. He pointed out how England’s Bazball style has changed from just being entertaining to winning. He thinks the Ashes series starting on November 21 will be good.
I’m okay with how they play. It’s going to be a great summer. I think they’ve changed their style a bit. They have some stars like Joe Root and Ben Stokes who can win matches on their own, Lyon said, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
It seems like they’re trying to win games instead of just being entertainers. They’ve played well recently, he added.
Eight years ago, England toured Australia after winning the urn in 2015. The Baggy Greens met in Brisbane in November 2017 and the selectors surprised many by picking Cameron Bancroft and Tim Paine.
Lyon tried to take the pressure off the two young players by sledging, saying, Could we end some careers? I hope so. He now says he did it on purpose.
I wanted to make it about England and take pressure off ‘Painey’ and Cam Bancroft. Painey was coming back and Cam was making his debut so there was a lot of pressure on our batting, especially those young guys, he said.
Scott Boland thinks Australia will do well against England in the Ashes if the pitches are consistent and good for bowlers which would counter England’s aggressive Bazball style.

The five-match Ashes series starts in Perth on November 21. They’re going to play hard. If the pitches stay like they have been I think we’ll be in the game, he said.
The ball moved around a bit during the England tour last time which helped the bowlers but usually the pitches there are flatter. In Australia they’ve been good bowlers for the last few years, Boland told ESPNCricinfo.Boland took 18 wickets at 9.55 in his first Ashes series against England in 2021/22 but only 2 wickets at 115.50 in last year’s Ashes in England. With Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood in front of him he’s happy to do his best if he gets the chance.
He said Australia might not play four fast bowlers in the Ashes because Nathan Lyon is good at home and Cameron Green can also bowl seam.
