Ishan Kishan, the wicketkeeper-batter for Sunrisers Hyderabad, had a heartfelt reunion with Nita Ambani, owner of the Mumbai Indians, just recently. This encounter happened after he was released from the Mumbai squad ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Ishan had spent seven seasons with the Mumbai Indians before moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad in a significant deal.
After a recent match, where both teams played against each other, a moment caught everyone’s attention. Even though Ishan had been released, he didn’t hesitate to approach Nita with a big smile as they shook hands while heading to their respective dugouts. It’s always nice to see such genuine interactions in sports, and this one certainly struck a chord with fans. There was also a snapshot that many shared online, showcasing their warm exchange.
That game didn’t go quite as planned for Ishan, as he was stumped for just two runs, leaving his supporters hoping for more, especially given his history with the Mumbai team. Sadly, his performance lately hasn’t been the best. After starting the IPL 2025 season strong with a match-winning century against the Rajasthan Royals, his scores have continued to drop. In fact, he’s had a string of low scores: 0, 2, 2, 17, 9*, and another 2. These struggles have clearly impacted the Sunrisers’ overall game since they’ve only managed to secure two wins in their first seven matches. With these ongoing issues, there’s chatter about possibly replacing Ishan with Ravichandran Smaran as the tournament continues.

Things haven’t been easy for Ishan since the end of 2023. He lost his spot in the central contract, and his last time wearing the Indian jersey was back in November 2023 during a T20I against Australia. He did play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy recently, representing Jharkhand, where he put up decent numbers: 316 runs in seven matches with an average of 45.14 and a century to his name. With the Indian team preparing for a white-ball series against Bangladesh this coming August, it will be interesting to see if Ishan makes the squad.
With new central contracts expected to be announced soon, there’s a chance that Ishan might be left off the 2025-26 list as well. It’s a tough spot for a player who has shown so much potential in the past, and fans are really hoping to see him bounce back strong in the upcoming matches.
