After his great IPL in 2024, Nitish Kumar Reddy got a spot on India’s white-ball team. What’s cool is that the all-rounder was chosen for the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy too, since Rohit Sharma and the team really wanted a good all-rounder. Even though Nitish didn’t play much red-ball cricket before, he got the chance and played his first Test match in Perth.
The 21-year-old had a great tour in Australia, scoring 298 runs in five games. He even hit an amazing century at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which got him a lot of praise from cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.
Remembering the tour, the cricketer said not long ago that he wore Virat Kohli’s shoes in the Melbourne game. He said that Virat was asking around the dressing room for shoe sizes, and when he found out they matched, he gave Nitish the shoes.
Back in the locker room, Virat asked Sarfaraz, ‘Sarfu, what’s your shoe size?’ and he said, ‘Nine.’ Then he asked me, and I was like, ‘Oh man, I gotta guess this right,’ cause I really wanted his shoes even if they didn’t fit. I said, ’10,’ and he gave them to me! I wore those shoes in the next game and scored a hundred! Reddy said on a podcast on PUMA’s YouTube channel on Thursday.
Reddy will be playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next IPL season. Last season, he scored 303 runs in 13 games with a strike rate of 142.92. He also took three wickets. SRH really values him, which is why they’re keeping him for INR 6 crore for IPL 2025.
