India has suffered a setback as Nitish Kumar Reddy, the pace-bowling all-rounder, is ruled out of the rest of the England Test series due to a knee injury. Reddy had become a regular in the playing XI after his good performances in the second and third Tests of the England tour.
Reddy’s bowling and lower order batting made him a vital cog in the team assembled by head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill. He injured his knee in the gym on Sunday and is out. ESPN Cricinfo says scans showed ligament damage and now the question is how soon he will recover and be back to play.
Earlier, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was also removed from the series. Anshul Kamboj is his replacement. Akash Deep, who did well in the Edgbaston Test, was in pain during the 3rd Test at Lord’s and might not play the next game at Manchester.
These injuries have put the Indian team in a spot and they will have to keep changing plans. With less pace options and the series still undecided, India’s reserve players will be put to test. The team is hoping for quick recoveries and a comeback as they look to win the series.
