Rahul Dravid’s time as Rajasthan Royals head coach is coming to an end. The team said the former Indian captain has decided not to take up a different role with the franchise instead. He took up the job before the 2025 IPL season and his tenure will end before the next season begins.
In the 2025 season, the Rajasthan Royals didn’t quite live up to their expectations under Dravid. They finished 9th with 8 points from 14 games. But Dravid was instrumental in helping 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi grow and gain experience.
The Royals released a statement saying they did a review of their structure and offered Dravid another role within the franchise. But he declined it and that will be the end of his time with the team.

The Royals said in the statement that Rahul has been part of the team’s direction for many years. They said his guidance impacted many players, set good values in the group and affected the culture of the franchise.
They said as part of the structural review, Rahul was offered another role at the franchise but he declined it. Rajasthan Royals, all its players and fans around the world are thankful to Rahul for his great work with the franchise.
Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, also missed some games in the 2025 IPL season due to an injury. When Samson was out with a side strain, rumors started circulating that Dravid and Samson had a fallout.
Dravid said the rumors were not true and everything was fine within the team. There have been talks about Sanju Samson leaving the Royals.
Reports say Samson has told the franchise he wants to leave. As of now, neither the franchise nor Samson has responded to these rumors.
Dravid signed a multi-year contract. He was first hired as the head coach of the Royals under this contract in September 2025.
From 2011 to 2015, Dravid spent 5 seasons with the team. He was the captain in 2012 and 2013 and then mentor in 2014 and 2015.Post Royals, Dravid was the head coach of India U19 and India A teams. Then he became the Head of Cricket at National Cricket Academy in July 2019. And then in 2021, he was appointed as the head coach of the senior men’s team.
