It’s been almost 3 months since the tragic stampede in Bengaluru which happened during RCB’s IPL title celebrations. The crowd outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in 11 deaths and 56 injuries.
The Karnataka government started an inquiry and admitted the event wasn’t ready. A police complaint was filed against RCB, the event organizers and KSCA saying they didn’t get permission or follow instructions.
RCB’s social media went silent after the incident. But in a recent post they said they’ve started RCB Cares in response to the tragedy.
Here’s what they wrote to their fans:
Dear 12th Man Army,
It’s been almost 3 months since our last post. Our silence wasn’t because we didn’t care, but because we were grieving. This page used to be full of fun memories, but June 4th changed everything. Our hearts broke that day and we went silent to reflect. During this time we’ve been grieving, listening and learning. Now we’re building something bigger – something we believe in. That’s how RCB Cares started. It’s our way to honor, heal and support our fans. It’s a platform for real action, shaped by our community.

We’re back not to celebrate but to care, share, stand with you and move forward together. We want to keep making Karnataka proud. RCB Cares – always. More details soon…
Earlier RCB director Mo Bobat said that the stories of those who died in the stampede will always be part of the team’s history. He said it’s very sad that these fans lost their lives, especially since RCB wanted to win the title for them.
RCB and state government share the blame for the incident where 11 people, mostly teens, died outside the stadium. Some officials from RCB and KSCA were arrested for inviting thousands of fans to the victory parade. Government found that RCB mismanaged the crowd and court cases are ongoing.Bobat told Cricbuzz, “Cricket and IPL is all about passion and our fans motivate us a lot. We wanted to win for them, especially since they’ve been waiting for 18 years. It’s very sad that some of them died. We want to recognize them and their families. Their stories will be part of our history. Every team has a history and what our fans went through is now part of ours, something we have to honor.”
It remains to be seen how RCB will honor the fans. They had given 10 lakh to each of the victims which is a small part of their 514 crore revenue for 2024-25.
Right now it’s unclear if Chinnaswamy Stadium will host IPL matches in 2026. A state committee has said the stadium is not safe for large gatherings and several matches have already been shifted.
