Rajat Patidar’s knack for handling spin grew out of the impact Rahul Dravid had on him early on, as the RCB captain shared before IPL 2025 kicks off. Patidar has made a name for himself in the league with his aggressive play, especially when it comes to facing spin, which has made him one of the most dangerous batters around.
He didn’t really try to work toward mastering it; rather, playing on difficult pitches at club level accustomed him to it. “When I started in club cricket, the pitches were often not well-prepared. So, I got comfortable facing spin over time,” Patidar said on the RCB Podcast.
He remembers that before his Ranji debut, they would prepare pitches for their strong spin bowlers. “So, I knew I’d be playing on turning tracks and I practiced the sweep shot for two to three hours every day. Basically, I said that this is the only way to score runs on these pitches. It’s good to put pressure on the bowlers.”
His handling of spin did not just come about overnight. Patidar claimed that the most important lessons he picked up in footwork and using the crease were from watching Dravid, especially during Tests on spin-friendly wickets.

Coming back to the good signs for RCB is Patidar, who was injured in a finger against CSK but was now in the nets preparing for the game against KKR. All credit to him that, under his captaincy, the team is in the best fight for a top-two position on the points table after some pretty commendable performances.
