Roger Binny is walking out of the BCCI with his term as president completing on July with that very moment when he completes 70 years of age. It is the rule that no one who has crossed that age can continue to hold the post.
Sources said that Rajeev Shukla, currently the vice president, is likely to be appointed interim president for a three-month period until the Annual General Meeting in September, during which Shukla, also a Member of Parliament and former chair of the IPL, may seek a full term as president.
Binny, part of the legendary World Cup cricket team of 1983, will be turning 70 on July 19. He was elected president in 2022 after taking over from Sourav Ganguly. He was instrumental in India’s World Cup success, finishing up as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 18 wickets. Binny played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs from 1979 to 1987, scoring 1,459 runs and taking 124 wickets.
During Binny’s presidency, the Indian men’s cricket team grabbed two ICC white-ball trophies, including the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. The Women’s Premier League started during his reign.

Also, Binny made rules stipulating that Indian players must play in domestic matches when not on national duty. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer reportedly received warnings for not adhering to this. Subsequently, both were excluded from the board’s annual contracts last year.
