Rohit Sharma had a great night in the IPL 2025 as he led Mumbai Indians to a big win over Gujarat Titans in New Chandigarh on Friday. In a high-scoring Eliminator match, MI won the game and will now face Punjab Kings in the next qualifier on Sunday. Rohit played a key role, scoring 81 off 50 and helping MI post 228/5 in 20 overs.
This was his 4th fifty of the season and Rohit himself admitted he was looking for more. “I have only 4 fifties this IPL season. I think I would have liked to get more. I know how big this game was and it was a team effort, he said after being declared player of the match.
With 410 runs this season, Rohit is MI’s second highest scorer behind Suryakumar Yadav. He acknowledged that luck played a part in his innings since he got a couple of dropped catches.
“I just tried to play my best. Today with some luck on my side I knew I had to take advantage of it. I’m happy I did that and helped the team,” he said. “We knew it would be tough with the dew coming in. I’ve played those shots before and found fielders, but I got lucky with the drops.
With Ryan Rickelton leaving to prepare for the World Test Championship final, MI brought in Jonny Bairstow as an opener and he made an impact with 47 off 22. Rohit praised Bairstow’s batting. “I’ve watched him play for years. We know he can perform early on and he took his chances tonight, he said.

Rohit and Bairstow gave MI a great start, scoring 84 in just over 7 overs. MI captain Hardik Pandya praised both openers. “The way Jonny stepped up for his debut with us and the way Rohit played was crucial. He took his time and in tight games like this every little bit counts, he said.
