This cricket season, Rohit Sharma was captain for the Indian men’s cricket team with Rahul Dravid as coach from November 2021 till June 2024. During that time, they also built a very strong association and brought the T20 World Cup title back home in 2024, and also managed to reach the World Test Championship final in 2023, as well as the ODI World Cup final later that very year. According to Rohit, in a recent discussion, while all went well between the two of them, there were some disagreements with respect to team selection.
He asserts, “Rahul bhai and I reached a point where I understood what he was asking and he got why I made certain decisions. It’s important to talk about these things. I’ve never thought of it as just my team; I’ve always valued input.”

When asked about the disagreements, Rohit admitted that they’d had strong arguments. According to him, “That is fine; that is supposed to happen.”
He further added, “If there is no debate, something’s wrong. Different opinions are what makes the world interesting. Just because we see things differently doesn’t mean either of us is wrong. I respect that. But it is on me to lead the team on the field as best as I can for 20 overs. I’ll manage usage of players and best figure who fits what role. Rahul bhai understood that so it was not hard explaining the reasons behind my choices to him. He is a vast pool of experience and knowledge about the game, so how could he not ask?
