After the Chinnaswamy Stadium tragedy, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will have to find a new home for their IPL 2026 matches. The stadium won’t be used as it has been declared unsafe for big events.
This decision was taken after a stampede happened when RCB fans were celebrating their IPL win in 2025. Unfortunately 11 people lost their lives and more than 50 were injured. The government appointed commission looked into the incident and said the stadium’s design and structure is not suitable for big crowds. Hence the stadium is now considered unfit and unsafe for IPL matches and Women’s ODI World Cup matches that were supposed to be held there.

Since RCB can’t play at Chinnaswamy Stadium, they need to find other venues for their home matches in IPL 2026. They are looking at a few options:
- Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium, Nagpur
- Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore
- Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara
- Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram
- ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam
- HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala
- DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai
- MCA Stadium, Pune
- Green Park Stadium, Kanpur
VCA Stadium in Nagpur and Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram are being considered as good options as they have good facilities, enough space for fans and are in convenient locations. This sad situation has made cricket officials and RCB think what’s most important which is fan safety. Now they are looking for a good alternative for 2026 home games.
The stampede happened inside Chinnaswamy Stadium when RCB fans were celebrating their first IPL title in 2025. It was caused by poor crowd management and lack of safety measures. This showed some problems with the stadium’s design, how people moved inside, where the entry and exit points were and how ready they were for emergencies. Since all these issues the stadium is now unsafe for big events till it’s renovated or a new place is found.
