Sai Sudharsan recently talked about how playing against tough fast bowlers with the Gujarat Titans has really helped him improve his game as a T20 batter. In his four seasons with the Titans, he’s scored a solid 1,220 runs in just 28 matches, holding an impressive average of 48.80 and even smashing a century with a high score of 103.
On Wednesday, though, he just missed out on bagging three half-centuries in a row. He managed to score 49 runs against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, but couldn’t quite get to that fifty. He mentioned that spending more time in the nets has been a game changer for him, especially in honing his skills for shorter formats of the game.
“This is my fourth year with the Titans, and I’ve learned so much during this time. Facing tough fast bowlers in practice has been a big part of that,” Sudharsan explained during a post-match conference. He acknowledged that the practice and match experience he’s gotten have really helped shape his performance, especially in T20.
He went on to say, “Working alongside these great bowlers, many of whom have represented their countries, has been vital for my growth. The practice sessions, especially in tough conditions, have allowed me to learn a lot. Over the years, I’ve picked up quite a bit of knowledge. Plus, playing for India and competing in various leagues outside the country has really broadened my understanding of the game.”
Sudharsan didn’t hold back in praising fellow teammate, left-arm spinner Sai Kishore, who played a key role in helping the Titans secure an eight-wicket win over RCB. Kishore had fantastic bowling figures of 4 overs, giving away just 22 runs while taking 2 wickets.
“His spell was crucial because the pitch wasn’t easy for fast bowlers. As batters, we needed to take advantage of the opportunities against spinners. I think he really figured out how to adjust his speed and angles well, especially when he was up against Tim David and Liam Livingstone. He made some smart moves and that’s what made his spell so effective,” Sudarshan noted.
With the Titans currently sitting fourth in the standings, they are looking to climb higher when they play against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. It’ll be an exciting match, and the Titans are hoping to keep up their momentum.
