Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the Lucknow Super Giants, was all smiles after his team took down the Mumbai Indians in an IPL 2025 match on Friday night. LSG put up an impressive score of 203 runs for 8 wickets, while they managed to hold MI to 191 runs for 5 wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
There’s a fun clip going around on social media where Goenka chats with his captain Rishabh Pant and MI’s big hitter, Rohit Sharma. He’s seen giving Pant a friendly pat on the shoulder as they share a light-hearted moment. It’s worth noting that Rohit couldn’t play in this match because of an injury; he got hit in the knee during practice, which ruled him out for this game.

This win was LSG’s second in four matches, moving them up to sixth place in the IPL 2025 standings. In contrast, MI faced their third loss in four games, placing them seventh on the table. LSG has to be a bit worried about Rishabh Pant’s form, though, as he hasn’t been performing well with the bat lately. In four matches, he has only scored 19 runs, with his highest being 15 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
LSG made quite a splash when they signed Pant for a jaw-dropping Rs 27 crore during the mega auction in 2024, hoping he’d help turn things around for the team after a rough last season. There are also some positive vibes regarding the pitch after their mentor, Zaheer Khan, had expressed concerns earlier about it not being good for their style of play. Pant mentioned after the match, “The wicket is looking good, and we need to understand what’s working for us.” He added, “Earlier, we wanted a different type of pitch, but we’ll make the best out of what we have.”
Next up for LSG is a match against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Tuesday, April 8. They’ll be looking to keep the momentum going and improve their standings in the league!
